Sheri Colberg, PhD is an author, exercise physiologist, researcher, and professor of exercise science at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She was also appointed as adjunct professor of internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, also in Norfolk..

Having earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, she specializes in research on diabetes and exercise and continues to conduct extensive clinical research specifically in type 2 diabetes and exercise with funding from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and others. She has authored eight books, along with over 250 research and educational articles on physical activity, diabetes, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, successful aging, and more.

In addition to her many credentials, including working as an exercise specialist in a diabetes treatment center and conducting exercise-related research on people with diabetes, Dr. Colberg has over 43 years' worth of practical experience as a (type 1) diabetic exerciser and person living with diabetes. She recently headed up the revision of a position stand on "Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes" jointly for the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Diabetes Association (Dec. 2010), as well as represented the American Diabetes Association as an organizational partner in the implementation of the National Physical Activity Plan for Americans. She also serves on the Center for Global Health Task Force for Old Dominion University and the ADA's Prevention Committee (to prevent type 2 diabetes).

A frequent lecturer on diabetes and exercise across the nation to both professional and lay audiences, Dr. Sheri is also a reviewer for many scientific journals, grants, and books, a member of several diabetes publications’ advisory boards, a columnist and medical advisory board member for dLife, a frequent columnist for Diabetes In Control, a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, a professional member of the ADA, a former member of the Board of Directors for the Diabetes Exercise & Sports Association, and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Dr. Sheri currently resides with her family in coastal Virginia. An avid recreational exerciser, she enjoys swimming, biking, walking, fitness machines, tennis, racquetball, weight training, skiing, hiking, and yard work, as well as playing with her three (usually) active sons.
